July 13, 2013, Mission Viejo Fields, Aurora CO:  The Ken Caryl Little League 12/11 year old All-Stars advanced on the road to Williamsport, PA and the Little League World Series by winning KCLL's first ever District 5 Little League 11/12-tournament championship on Saturday morning.   The team came out on top 13 to 2 in the championship game with a win over the Academy All Stars from Colorado Springs.   The KCLL All-Stars finished the tournament with 4 wins and 1 loss.
The tournament started with a 4 to 2 victory in the opener over perennial power, Academy LL.  John Cullom pitched a 6 inning complete game, and the defense helped in stifling the Academy hitters allowing just 6 hits with no errors.  Sam Low recorded 4 put outs with 3 assists at shortstop.  Academy took an early 1 to 0 lead in the top half of the second but KCLL tied it up in the bottom half with an RBI single from Sammy Richards scoring Evan Cushing (on base and pinch running for Culllom).  KCLL would cross another run in the third with Brayden Roybal drawing a leadoff walk and being driven in by Joey Hammond.  KCLL got 2 more in the fourth with Cullom getting his second hit of the game followed by bunt singles from Cushing and Emmett Ela.  Cullom closed out the game with 9 straight strikes putting down the heart of the Academy order.
The second game saw KCLL on top early with 5 runs in the first then adding 10 in the second.  Ethan Martinez, Cullom and Roybal added extra base shots and every KCLL player reached base during the shortened game.  The offense was backed with a solid, 1 hit pitching gem delivered from the combined work of Richards, Hammond and Ryan Irvine.
Game three came with a hard fought win over Dry Creek Little League 11 to 6.  KCLL jumped out to an early 9 to 0 lead with 4 in the first, 2 in the second and 3 in the third, but Dry Creek fought back with 4 runs in the fourth inning.  Ari Fierer and Irvine pitched the back half of the game and 2 outstanding diving plays from Cushing shut the Dry Creek comeback hopes down, closing out the game.  The win put KCLL into the championship match with Academy LL who had come back through the loser’s bracket with 4 straight wins.
The Academy bats stayed hot in game one of the championship as we saw our team fall 13 to 1.  While we put a lot of hard hit balls into play, the Academy defense made solid plays to keep our scoring at bay, setting up a best 2 of 3 final game to advance.  Cullom took the hill for our team, putting in another fine pitching performance scattering just 2 hits with solid defense being played behind him. Roybal opened the game with a leadoff single to get the bats and offense started.  The team combined for 16 hits with Fierer and Roybal having 3 each.  Low singled to lead off the second, Dylan Jutze reached base on a bunt single followed by another bunt single from Cushing to score Low and get the scoring started.  Davis Stewart would drive in the final run as KCLL ADVANCED with a 13 to 2 victory.
